A Crazy, Busy 5 Weeks!

The next 5 weeks in the Tri-County area are just slammin-jammin with things to do!

The Burdick Labor Day Celebration kicks off September on Sunday and Monday Sept 1 & 2 with their annual Festival featuring a parade, music, pedal power, lots of food, and lots of fun!  You can see the full line up of their event on line at www.facebook.com/BurdickLaborDayCelebration

Then just a few days later we’ll scoot on over to Hope on Sept 7 for the Hope Heritage turtle fasterFestival.  The Car Show and Pin-Up competition at this event were THE talk of the fall last year, make sure you don’t miss it.  The Chamber will be hosting NASCAR themed Turtle Races at the event. Throw in a parade, lots of food, and Captain Andy’s Comedy Hypnotist show and you have one fun day.  Check out their full line up on line at www.HopeHF.com

On Sept10, the Circus will be in Herington. This is a Chamber sponsored event and you can get tickets at the Chamber office, at Kay’s Pharmacy, or at the West Walnut Market.  Show times will be at 5pm & 7:30.

Sept 11 the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1281 will be hosting a 9/11 Memorial Walk at Father Padilla Park from 6pm-8pm

The Chamber will be helping to organize the Red Cross Blood Drive on Sept. 13 at the Herington Community Building from 10am-2pm.  Be a hero, give blood, and get a free hamburger to boot!

Our next Cash Mob will be at G&R Auto Parts on Sept. 14 from 10am-12noon.  I hearTLF logo that Gene, Rhonda, and Dave are planning some specials for that day.  Come out and support a local business.  If you spend at least $10 in cash at the event, you’ll get your name in a drawing for a prize basket worth $60.

The always popular Crossroads Flea Market will be in town on Sunday, August 15.

Rails ‘N Trails will round out the month with Herington’s annual heritage festival. The 2nd Annual Rails ‘N Trails KCBS sanction BBQ contest will be the highlight of the festival along with our Herington’s Got Talent contest. We will also have a health and vendor fair, midway games, a history tour in an open air trolley, carriage rides, COOL inflatable jumpy things (we sprung for the obstacle course!), gunfighters, the Delano Dollies, and lots of other fun stuff!  The Bike Rodeo is Wednesday night the 18th, the Cemetery Tours are Thursday night leaving from the West Walnut Market, and Friday night is Rails ‘N Trails night at the Railers football game.  Also Friday night is a concert at Tripp Field by the classic rock band Shagnasty – free with your Rails ‘N Trails button.

Man, by the time Rails ‘N Trails is over, I’m going to need to sleep for a week to rest!

The Chamber is in the HOUSE!

boothBeing out in the community in one of the best parts of my job; talking to people about fun things that the Chamber has going on.

Tonight I had a booth at the Herington Elementary School Open House and had such a great time talking with the kids about the upcoming circus and to their parents about Rails ‘N Trails, the Burdick Labor Day Festival, and the Hope Heritage Festival.

The new elementary school principal, Donna Ferguson, is a great asset to our community.  We at the Chamber are so excited to be invited to be involved in our schools!

Good luck students as you start the new school year!
