When I first started here at the Chamber, our “Promotions & Resources Committee” was in need of some new members; however the biggest obstacle to that goal was the boring name of the group. Really, does “Promotions & Resources” sound very exciting? After a few new people came on, I asked them to come up with a new name for their group, something that better describes what they do.
What did they name themselves? The FUN Committee! This is the group that plans events, festivals, and all the other fun things that the Chamber puts together.
The Fun Committee has decided that they need to expand again. They have so many great ideas, but not enough people to help implement these ideas. On August 6th, at 4:30pm, the group is having a special meeting to recruit new members and to start planning our fall and holiday events. If you are interested in helping with the Christmas Festival, this would be the meeting to attend! We are also very interested in expanding our Halloween parade to include a full “Trunk & Treat” event, but need some input and a volunteer to help with the implementation.
Business owners – our committee is very interested in planning events that benefit your company. Please consider joining our group or having one of your employees attend. Help us to help you!
Remember, when we all do a little, we accomplish A LOT!
Argg, matey! Looking to win $500 in booty (Local Bucks) and have a good time in the process? Gather your crew and sign up for the Wild Wench Photo Scavenger Hunt. You’ll have adventures across the Tri-County area. Sign up by July 21st and everyone on your team will receive a free t-shirt! Check out the Chamber’s Facebook page or talk to any Fun Committee member for more details.
Much thanks go out to our Fun Committee for all their hard work putting this event together and for the successful Horse Apple Bingo game last Saturday. Congratulations to Ruth Smith for picking the right square and winning $500 in Local Bucks and much thanks to Susan Mueller for bringing out a bevy of “critters” to help us pick a winner.
The Chamber’s Fun Committee members are Greg Wolff, Chardy Bayes, Brandy Moorman, Kristin Korgol, Tisha Backus, Leslie Mayes, and Stephanie Gilbert. The Fun Committee is always looking for new members; our next meeting is July 22nd at 4pm in the Chamber office when we will be finishing up the plans for the Wild Wench Photo Scavenger Hunt and starting to plan the Christmas Festival.
Kimberly tries to talk her parents into the BIG firecracker!
I’m back in the Chamber office now and want to thank Mickey for filling in for me last week writing the Chamber Chatter column.
Every time we’re in the midst of a big event or project, I say “when this is over, I’ll have time to relax for a bit”; but then before you know it, I’m running 100 miles an hour with my hair on fire on another plan. Someone pointed that out to me once and I explained that it’s just my way of compartmentalizing. If you look at everything that the Chamber does all year long, it would be overwhelming; so I focus on one at a time, but with an eye on the next few things coming down the pike.
The fireworks stand, although physically exhausting, was a big success! The funds we raised through this stand allow us to keep the lights on and office operating; so thank you to everyone who supported us!
Next up on our calendar is the Grand Opening Celebration at Kay’s Pharmacy on July 10th from 12noon-6pm, manning the Think Local First booth at the Tri-County Free Fair, and Horse Apple Bingo Saturday night!
On August 2nd, we’ll be premiering a new event from the Chamber’s Fun Committee: the Wild Wench Photo Scavenger hunt! Check out the event page on Facebook, stop in the Chamber office, or see any Fun Committee member for more details!
Hello everyone, this is Mickey and I is writing Momma’s column this week because she is working hard at the fireworks stand. I don’t like that stupid fireworks stand because Momma spends too much time there that she should be spending with her puppy! Luckily my Aunt Lisa is visiting and plays ball with me.
I heard Momma say that she is very grateful to all the helpers she has at the stand this week. She said that set up day went nice and easy because the Mud Dogs helped. At first I had a big mad because I thought she was playing with other dogs, but she said that is a baseball team. Momma also said that the VFW guys have all be really helpful too and she appreciated all their help. Lots of other people have come and helped work at the stand, too many to list, but she says they know who they are and she appreciates them all especially Aunt Lisa and Grandpa (Momma’s Dad) who came all the way from Texas this week to help!
Momma also said that she is grateful to all the local people for supporting the fireworks stand and for understanding why the Chamber office is closed all week and to Kay’s Pharmacy for being a UPS drop-off spot while her office is closed. Momma will be back in her office on Monday morning.
Next week she will write her own column and I will go back to napping, ball playing, and protecting my yard from vicious bunny rabbits. (but not Miss Vikki’s big fluffy cat, who still scares me)
