Jingle, jingle, jingle….what is that noise? That’s just me with my pockets full of quarters, all ready for the Quarter Mania event this Sunday!
Come out and support the Hospital Auxiliary and the Chamber’s Fun Committee and have a great time in the process! A quarter auction is a cross between a raffle, an auction, and a really big home party! You have a chance to bid on and win prizes from 17 different company’s products from Vault Denim to Jamberry Nails to Shakeology to Origami Owl Jewelry.
The Hospital Auxiliary will have snacks and beverages and there will be plenty of time for shopping as well. Entry is $5 for one paddle or 4 paddles for $10. The event will be from 3pm to 5pm at the Herington Community Building. We hope to see you there.
The date has been set for our 2nd Annual Witches Brew ladies afternoon: October 26. We’ll be expanding the event this year so we’ll be in the Community building so even MORE people can attend. Like last year we’ll have a costume contest and a fun get to know everyone game, lots of food, and prizes; but this year we’re going to add an exciting scavenger hunt! So grab your broom and your best witches and plan on a fun afternoon.
If you are looking for something to do this Saturday, you have a plethora choices this week!
If golf is your game then be sure and sign up for the fundraising tournament for the Herington Wrestling Club. Call 366-1028 or 366-0866 for more information. Sweet Creations has donated some of her yummy cinnamon rolls for the participants; that’s worth playing right there!
Softball fans can participate in the Herington Co-Ed Softball Tournament on Saturday. It will be benefiting the Bayes family which does so much for our community and has been hard hit with medical bills this year. Even if you don’t play, come out and grab some lunch after 11am from 2 Guns BBQ!
Artists will want to make their way over to Prairie Chic this Saturday for the first ever Recycled Robots Art competition. It’s open to middle school, high school, and adults in the area. The winning artist will receive $100 and have their piece displayed in the store for 30 days.
Come out and honor our nation’s POW/MIAs at the annual POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony at the VFW Post 1281 building at 3pm and stay for a potluck meal afterwards.
The American Legion Riders are also hoping that you are hungry on Saturday as they host a fish fry starting at 4pm and going until they run out of fish! Head on out to the American Legion building at the lake and support the American Legion Riders, who are very active in our communities.
Finish out a fun filled day with the Clearview Band as they take the stage at the Blockhouse Bar.
WHEW! I’m tired just thinking of all the great choices of things to do this weekend!
Whew! This is one tired Chamber Lady! We had three festivals in three weekends; exhausting, but tons of fun. No festivals this week, but there isn’t a shortage of things to do.
This Thursday is Patriots Day and the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 1281 will host the annual 9-11 Walk again at Father Padilla Park. There will be a special Color Guard walk and ceremony at 6pm and walkers will continue until 8pm. The ladies will have water and American flags for the walkers and hope that everyone will come out to honor our first responders and military on this solemn day.
Friday offers two ways to fill your bellies without messing up your kitchens. The Herington Civic Club will host a Pancake Feed at the Community Building from 5-6:30pm with the proceeds to be shared with the Herington High School. Or if a Fish Fry is more to your liking, head on over to the Herington Senior Center for music with Randy Brown. The fish fry is from 5-7pm and music will go from 5-8pm.
If you just can’t get enough fish, be sure and put Saturday the 20th on your calendars when the American Legion Riders will be hosting a Fish Fry at the American Legion Building at Herington Lake. They’ll start serving at 5pm and will serve until they run out of fish.
Also on the 20th will be the Herington Co-Ed Softball Benefit Tournament at the Herington Ball Fields, the Recycled Robots Art Competition at Prairie Chic, and the POW/MIA Remembrance and Potluck at the VFW Hall.
The Chamber’s “Fun Committee” has a couple of new things on the agenda for the next few months.
September 28th we are going to try our hands at putting together a Quarter Mania Auction. Don’t feel bad if you don’t know what that is, we didn’t either until recently. It’s a cross between an auction, a raffle, and a home party all rolled into one to make a fun and exciting afternoon! The Fun Committee is teaming up with the HMH Auxiliary, so come out and support your Fun Committee and the Hospital Auxiliary. If you want to read any more about the event, check out the Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/693199904062063/
The Fun Committee is also looking to expand our annual Costume Parade. We want to give the kids a fun but safe environment to fill their little sacks so we are adding a Trunk or Treat to the event. Individuals and organizations are asked to bring your vehicle down to the costume parade and open the trunk or back and hand candy out to the kids. People often decorate their trunks and dress in costume to make the event more fun for the kids!
Don’t forget that October is also the time that the undead rise up and gather non-perishable food items for the Family Resource Exchange, so mark October 26th on your calendar and join Chardy Bayes in this worthwhile endeavor!
