Was the weather last weekend a welcome change or what? We had lots of family in town and had a great day outside enjoying the sunshine.
Did you know that if you are a Chamber member, you can borrow all sorts of things for events like that? We took advantage of our Chamber membership and borrowed some tables and chairs as well as the Ladder Golf and Cornhole games. If you have an event coming up, just call the Chamber to reserve what you need.
Chamber membership is not just for businesses, we have a lot of individual members, you can even add your membership to your monthly utility bill so you hardly notice it’s there. Besides being able to borrow items for family events, you also get free faxing and notary services, extremely inexpensive black and white and color copying, and the ability to reserve the boardroom for small meetings. You also have access to someone who can help you design flyers and give you help with computer and social media issues. On several occasions, I’ve helped members with limited computer skills set up their Facebook accounts and use it. Besides supporting an organization that does a lot in our community, Chamber membership offers great benefits for businesses and individuals a like.
I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather as much as I am! I keep saying that I hope winter is gone for good, but people keep telling me that it is probably too much to hope for. I’m going to think positive!
Hopefully the weather will stay nice through Easter though. The ladies of Beta Sigma Phi are planning their annual Easter Egg Hunt for April 4 at 1pm in Father Padilla Park for kids 8 years old and younger. Last year they collection 4,150 eggs and I bet this year we can all help them break that number! The Chamber received a generous donation of 30 dozen plastic eggs and we’re looking for people to fill them with goodies. If you are interested in helping give our kids a great event and you don’t have any eggs to fill yet, stop by the office and pick up a few bags.
March 21 is the deadline to have your eggs filled and taped and turned in. Primary drop off location is First Impressions, but I can take them at the Chamber office as well.
April is going to be a busy month, be sure and keep an eye on our community calendar on the Chamber website, tricountycofc.com, or on our Facebook page for all the fun details!
It’s time for another Think Local First Cash Mob! Our local Pizza Hut donates back to our community so much and hosts so many fundraisers for local people and groups; let’s show them how much we appreciate them in our community! Come out for the lunch buffet next Monday between 11 am and 1 pm and be entered to win the $60 Cash Mob prize basket. Pizza Hut will also be doing some additional giveaways. Come out and enjoy a great lunch and maybe win some great prizes.
Also on Monday the 16th, be sure and visit the Hospital Auxiliary’s Book Fair in the PT Hallway of the Hospital. Get some great reading material and support your local hospital.
The members of Beta Sigma Phi are starting to make calls about donations for the annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 4. Last year they had 4,150 eggs. Let’s see if we can beat that number this year! If you would like to donate plastic eggs filled with goodies (candy or other treats) contact Tonya Utech, Mary Schaffer, or myself.
The Throttle Jockey’s 4th Annual Car Show is going to be bigger and better than ever this year! The Visit Herington Tourism Board and the American Legion Riders are teaming up to host a street dance on Friday night, April 24, with the Clearview Band. Bring the family out, as they close down Broadway for a great community dance. The Car Show will be Saturday morning, April 25, from 8 am to 1 pm. Street closures will start around 6 am.
Please be aware of the street closures and respect the barriers. It just takes a few extra minutes of your time to take an alternate route to your destination. Please do not go around the barriers once they are in place. Not only is it inconsiderate, but it’s potentially dangerous. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Isn’t it funny how sometimes an event can go so smoothly and without a hitch, then the following year the exact same event can have one issue after another? Last year’s Father Daughter Dance went so well, we were bound to have some issues this year. Starting off with problems with the sound system and culminating with the fire alarms going off, it was an eventful dance. We appreciate everyone’s patience with us this year; but the kids seemed to have a great time and that is what’s important, right?
We had a lot of help on this event this year. As always, thank you to the Fun Committee for the planning and advance ticket sales. We had a great crew helping to set up the event: Curtis Hartman, Carl Brown, Vickie Hawkes, Tammie Jinkerson-Prosch and her son RJ, Ed Mueller and Stephanie Gilbert.
Dave Jones gets a big round of applause for bringing in the fog machine and for renting and hanging the disco lights which added so much to the ambiance.
During the event Kevin Bayes was so helpful running the music and helping to solve distorted sound issue. Tandi Arevalo and Stephanie Gilbert did a great job on the front door of the event and are greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the fathers who stayed after the event was over to help break down tables and chairs and to Ed Mueller, Dave Jones, and Tammie Jinkerson-Prosch who stayed and cleaned up until the last drop of pink lemonade was mopped up!
It was a group effort and although I was discouraged by the challenges the event faced, when I saw all the happy faces in Chardy Bayes’ pictures, it was all worth it!
Don’t forget to come out this Friday to the Spring Farm Filter Sale Customer Appreciation Lunch at G&R Auto Parts. I’ll be there serving with my “Family” hat on rather than my “Chamber Lady” hat. Come out and say “Hi”.
The Chamber is now accepting Vendor request forms for the 2015 Throttle Jockey’s Car Show and Drags on April 25th.
The downtown portion of the event is from 8am to 1pm and the Drags start at 2pm. We are looking for vendors for BOTH locations.
Call today to reserve your spot!
