Welcome to Herington, a
growing, friendly place to live or visit. Herington is located in
Dickinson, [DK], county in the heart of Kansas, central to many of the
state's premier tourist destinations. The rich local heritage is showcased at the Tri-County Historical
Society Museum in Herington's Fairgrounds Park. Nearby is the Railroad
Museum, located in a historic baggage car. The historical Carnegie Library, built in 1918, remains in use and
offers Internet services.
Fairgrounds Park, at the community's south end, has a miniature train
for children to ride on summer evenings, near a fully-equipped park.
On the opposite end of town, Herington's Father Padilla Memorial Park
features a monument to Juan Padilla, who was killed in 1542. The shaded
park has picnic facilities, playground facilities and gazebo. Enjoy the
park's WPA-built swimming pool.
In the traditional downtown business district, unique gift shops and
antique stores abound. Enjoy a cherry coke or vanilla malt at the
classic soda fountain in Boellings Drugstore
Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy fishing, boating, camping and excellent
picnic facilities at Lake Herington and the Herington Reservoir, located
just 2.4 miles west of the corner of Broadway and Walnut.
